A local bakery based on the American dream.
Here in Los Angeles we have the famous Porto's Bakery. This is a bakery based on the American dream of work hard and you can have success. This is the dream of Rosa Porto a Cuban immigrant who made Los Angeles her home.
A whole chain built on necessity since the family arrived with nothing but a strong will to have a better life than that which they left behind. Rosa began by selling baked goods out of her home kitchen. These were pastries that she had learned to make in Cuba. Soon a storefront in the heart of Los Angeles (Echo Park) was opened to accommodate the long line of customers. Even then at that point the baker was still not big enough.
