I have been going to Torrance Baker for well over 20 years now (I'm old, just know that). I was referred to them by a neighbor of mine (psst...their father was a baker and still they got their cakes from here). At that time I had ordered a basket of flowers cake for my mother's birthday. Ever since I have been a loyal customer.
I don't live close by unfortunately, but they do offer two locations. The original location in Torrance, CA and Gardena, CA. The original location is very busy, especially for morning coffee and a sweet. They offer up scones, donuts, cupcakes, cookies and so much more. They even make sandwiches for lunch.
If you are in the areas this is a must try. On Saturdays there is a flea market in the area so you can have your sweet and coffee as you walk around looking at knickknacks.
Their cake selection is what they are mostly known for since they do more icing decorated cakes than they do of the fondant. Don't get wrong! They also offer Fondant, but the buttercream icing they make is to die for.
My kids are particularly fond of cookie shapes. They are always cutest designs and perfectly sweet. Of course they always have the classics and if you take home a chocolate cookie, heat it up in the micro for about 5 seconds you will have a wonderfully gooey flavor explosion in your mouth.
Let's not forget about the mini cakes, cupcakes and cream puffs. To be honest My favorite part of this section of the bakery is always the carrot cake. MMMMMMMMMMM!!!!! And for me the cake it'self has to be pretty darn good.
If a baker's family referred me, it says a lot about how this bakery.
